missing siamese and orientals

If this is the first time that your Siamese or Oriental Cat has gone missing then it's not uncommon for panic to set in. It's also not easy to think straight when our babies go "walkabout" so our members have submitted their own helpful hints and tips that have assisted them when they have been in the same situation.

Print off flyers with details and a photo of your missing cat and then distribute them to every home within a one mile radius. Alternatively, you can organise with a local distributor to do this for you.
Put large posters on trees and lampposts in the area in which you live.
Telephone your local council to ensure that your cat has not been the victim of an RTA and subsequently removed by the council.
Telephone all the vets and rescue centres in your local area. Give them a description of your cat as well as his/her microchip number if applicable.
Put posters in the local shops such as Post Office, Supermarket entrances etc. But don't forget to ask permission from the shop owner first.
Put posters in the village halls, churches and also on your own front door so that the postmen and delivery men can also keep an eye out.
As cats tend to use their natural hunting instincts in the early hours of the morning, try to get up around 3am to search for your cat as you will have more chance of finding him/her when it is quiet than during the day when roads are busy and people are about.
Ask all of your neighbours to check their sheds, garages and greehouses as sometimes cats will head straight for the nearest shelter and remain in there unbeknownst to the owners.
If you own another cat, when you are searching for your missing cat, then take your other cat with you in a cat carrier. Then he/she will start singing as you are searching and the noise may attract your missing cat who will recognise the feline voice instantly.
Put some dry cat biscuits in a small bowl or container and when you are searching, shake the biscuits so that they make a noise as you are searching for your cat as they do recognise this sound and it may entice them to move towards the sound.
Always have a carrier with you when you are searching because if you find your cat quite a distance from your home, you will need to transport him safely back.
Contact your local schools and ask if they could make an announcement about your cat, or ask if they would let you put a poster up in the main entrance to the school. Children can be much more aware and alert than adults.
