MEMBERS health issues

Sadly from time to time our beloved cats fall ill. Routine problems such as dental disease, abscesses or mild tummy upsets are one thing, but what if the problem is more serious or chronic in nature such as VAS (Vaccine Associated Sarcoma), CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) or Cancer. When this happens to you for the first time, you often feel very alone in the world. The clinical information the vet gives you or that you can find on the net is one thing, but it can sometimes help a lot to read other owners experiences. Some of the best sites we have come across have been written by owners themselves who when their cat was first diagnosed with a particular illness could not find all the day to day information they needed, so decided to create websites or online support groups to help other owners and we have included links to those sites we have found so far.

It is for this reason that we have now added this new section to the web site. Some of our members have been through health specific problems with their cats and have been kind enough to share their experiences; what treatments they were offered, complimentary treatments they found for themselves, what worked what didn't, how their cat took to the treatment etc. Please note that this section is NOT intended to give clinical or Veterinary advice of any kind and if you are worried about your cats' health the Vet is always your first port of call. What we aim to do here is give you information from an owners' perspective. Indeed some or all of this information may not be relevant to your particular cat, as every case is different, but we hope to give you comfort that, in what may seem like your darkest hour, there is hope.

Likewise, if you have experienced a health issue with your cat that you would like to share with others, please do feel free to contact us and tell your story because the information you give might help another cat owner deal with their cats' problem much better. We will not publish your name or any personal details if you wish to remain anonymous. We would like to thank all of the people who have so far taken the time to send their information to us and hope to be able to update this section on a regular basis.

Please select which issue you would like to read about by clicking on the links at the top of this page.

Please note that the information below is for general understanding of some diseases and treatment. Please do NOT follow any treatment that may be advised without first thoroughly discussing it with your veterinary surgeon.
